Lambing season has a rhythm all its own. You can prepare as much as you like, pens ready, feed sorted, alarm set for the night checks, but in the end, each ewe goes at her own pace, and no amount of wishing speeds that along.
I think about that a lot when clients come to me wanting a life decision sorted immediately. A career change, whether to leave a relationship, what to do about ageing parents. The urge to have it settled right now is completely understandable. Uncertainty is uncomfortable.
But some decisions genuinely need time to develop, the same way a lamb needs its own number of weeks before it is ready to stand on its own. Forcing the pace does not produce a better outcome. It usually just produces a harder one.
What helps instead is steady attention. Checking in regularly, noticing small changes, being ready to act the moment things are actually ready to move, rather than the moment you feel impatient. That is most of what life planning actually is, in my experience: patient attention, not big dramatic leaps.
If there is a decision you have been sitting with for a while, it might not mean you are stuck. It might just mean it is not lambing time yet.
